Yes, it’s 2022 and the nation is celebrating its 75th Independence Day. But are we really independent ?
As per the recent statistics, female population is continuously increasing in the country but no one knows the truth about the female population in India.
No doubt our nation is such a great place to take birth and live but may be not for everyone. Where India got its freedom in 1947 after tons of sacrifices and battles, Indian women are still fighting for their freedom in lots of areas of the country.
According to Ms. Yamini Sharma “as women, we shouldn’t and we are not asking for any unnecessary favour or partiality but we just expect the real equality not only from the society but also from our own families as well.”
It’s a fact that after educational awareness, information revaluation and modernisation; Indian women are coming up as such a powerful part of the country both economically and socially. But we also can not deny the fact that there are still many places, villages and backward areas in India where a woman can’t even expect equality from her own family.
Somewhere somehow Indian woman is still not getting the freedom that she deserves. She is still being dominated by her parents, siblings, husband and in laws. She still can’t have the right or the liberty to make her own decisions about her education, career, food, clothes, friends and her life partner. Still wearing short dress, laughing loudly, wearing makeup, getting her skin tattooed or pierced is taboo for her. Still a woman has to think about her family, neighbours and the entire society before herself.
Definitely this is not what we can call freedom at all. But what’s the root of this sin ?
Before the society; family and family members are the culprits here. Because it all starts with the family. If a woman is not getting the love, respect, care, support and freedom that she deserves from her own family then she shouldn’t even expect it from the outer society.
Ms. Sharma says “yes, we are women, we also have 206 bones in our body but only we have the power and guts to bear the labour pain when it feels like the pain of 20 broken bones in the body. But still we don’t consider ourselves superior than men. We just want to get freedom and liberty that we deserve.”
We can see that everything is changing with the time then why don’t the superstition, rituals and the mentality that is still keeping Indian women far away from the freedom ?

When the society will no longer be called by the male dominating society, that’s when Indian women should celebrate the real Independence Day.
